The Sealing of Sutekh

Post by Lore Keeper »

A story whose details are still fresh in Silent Strider memory - Elders still walk the earth that were there and assisted with the effort, this is a tale of victory and triumph over the vampire Sutekh. Passed down it is a tale that is old, and yet new. Stretching back far, it’s final notes are still ringing throughout the land.

The following is an excerpt from the Epic Poem – The Sealing of Sutekh, crafted by Elder Galliard Sings of Knowledge – The whole Poem covers all knowledge of Sutekh from his initial battles, to how the various Silent Strider heroes rose up against him, below is the last part, that speaks of the actual sealing.

And so, outside the Great Pyramid of Sutekh stood the combined armies of Silent Strider and Bastet, both forces great and mighty, together again. With them stood Shu-Horus, ready to ride into battle with his Uncle and to slay him once and for all.

The Elder Hunts in Darkness called out to the assembled Garou, his mighty form ready for battle, “We come here, ready to sacrifice what we must. We come here, ready to destroy. We come here, ready to hunt, and to kill, and to die if we must. This night, is the last night for Sutkeh, this day shall be his end!”

The cheer and cry that came from all the Silent Striders, and the Bastet drowned out their charge, as they rushed the Great Pyramid of Sutekh. The Immortal Pharaoh Sutkeh watched as they charged, a sneer upon his face, and he called to the air for storm, he called to the land for quake, and he called to his blood for war.

Out from the Great Pyramid of Sutekh came his many descendants, his blood having poisoned them and bound them to his will, each as strong as an army themselves. But the strongest of all, was the lamentable Sobek. Sobek, Blessed of the Sun, ally of Shu-Horus who rode into battle, friend to his mother, and guardian who had been ready to give his life to save those that would one day destroy Sutekh. His mind bound, his body came forth unbidden to do battle with those that would come and attack his master. Sobek “Severed from the Sun” roared, and prepared to slay all who were once his friends.

After a night of battle, most of Sutekh’s forces were slain, but still no matter how Shu-Horus struck, he could not land a true blow against Sobek. Each blow glanced off the powerful Sobek, no strike landing true.

It was then that the Bastet proved their worth; though they could not succeed where even a god had failed, they could hold back the fury of Sobek “Severed from the Sun”. With each attack more of the Bastet fell, but it gave Hunts in Darkness and Shu-Horus the time to charge into the Great Pyramid of Sutekh, there to face the fiend.

Sitting within his great black throne, Sutekh watched as his two adversaries charged in, Sutekh - the immortal pharaoh’s face was twisted into a snarl, his rage burning over and his thirst for the death of those that charged against him was unending, in his heart he would have given up half his kingdom in that moment to see them both dead.

Shu-Horus called out to his Uncle, called to the Immortal Pharaoh, his tone full of pain, full of anger, Shu-Horus remembered all that his Uncle had done to him and to his family, and he would not let the Immortal Pharaoh survive the day.

Lying on the ground, nearly dead, Hunts in Darkness watched as the great and terrible figure of Sutekh, closed in on him. The limp form of Shu-Horus on the ground, the great Immortal Pharaoh came to his other enemy, the Elder watched him evenly.

Sutekh spoke as he approached, “You have wounded me this day, you have done well I should say. For since my birth until now only once have I feared for my life, I will give you the honor of saying this is the second time.

“But now, the fight is over, now I have won." The Immortal Pharaoh looked out at the battlefield, his champion Sobek - Severed from the Sun still battled against the army there, even as his other descendants fell, turning then back to the Elder the Immortal Pharaoh spoke, "From this time forth your people shall not trouble me or my children, from this time forth you will be scattered to the wind unable to return, forced to watch from afar as I do what I will; thus I have spoken it, thus it shall be..”

The Elder, Hunts in Darkness saw Sutekh begin to call upon his power, a great and terrible power it was, but one that would leave him distracted for one could not call such a curse lightly. The Elder rose, Sutekh did not notice. The Elder called upon his Ancestors, Sutekh did not notice. And as Sutekh was ready to curse the Elder, The Elder opened for the last time the door to the Silent Strider home land; the cool banks of the Nile flowed by, the sun warmed all who rested there - the resting place for all the Children of Owl from their battle. As the Immortal Pharaoh opened his eyes, he saw the light, and turning to the Elder realized too late what was happening. The doors to the Homeland slammed closed on the Immortal Pharaoh trapping him in a land of light, and the now Legend – Seals The Serpent spoke his own great curse instead, “We, the Children of Owl, revoke our home, our peace, and our well being, all so that this evil is bound away. Never again shall this dark Serpent escape so long as we do not return, death shall not be a release from battle for us for we shall always face our adversary.” The dual curse echoed through the throne room, and fell heavy upon all of the Silent Striders. Seals the Serpent fell to his knees, weakness taking him as all around him his Ancestors one by one disappeared, all bound to battle the Immortal Pharaoh for all time. As the words of the curse faded, the Legend spoke one final prayer, “Let us never forget this sacrifice. Let us never forget what must be given up to stop evil.”
