Stare Down
There are times when Garou come into conflict, depending on the severity a full challenge may be called for to settle the matter. Most of the time however, Garou are content with a quick settling of the issue with a brief display of force; that is a Stare Down.
Please note that a Stare Down is not in and of itself considered an official challenge, but quite often the non-verbal form of argument used by wolves to declare dominance. Stare Downs are commonly used by lupus and metis to resolve a matter, and those are not inherently official challenges. That said, you may choose a Stare Down as the form your official challenge will take.

When two Garou come into conflict they may initiate a Stare Down to settle the matter. The one who calls for a Stare Down first is the Aggressor, the other is the Defender.

The Aggressor picks from one of the below options as their test pool. Next to each pool is an example of what that pool looks like.
  1. Strength + Animal Ken + Rank - You make a show of force, perhaps beating your chest or some other threat of physical violence
  2. Intelligence + Intimidation + Rank - You snarl, your gaze shows your clear intent to kill or some other show of your superiority
  3. Charisma + Leadership + Rank - Your glower shows a complete disdain for your opponent and reminds them that they are beneath you
The Defender picks from one of the below options as their test pool. They are not in any way obliged to choose the same type of Attribute as their opponent. Next to each pool is an example of what that pool looks like.
  1. Stamina + Animal Ken + Rank - You make a show of force, perhaps showing how tough you are and how they could not hope to hurt you
  2. Resolve + Intimidation + Rank - You snarl, your gaze shows a clear and unflinching defiance
  3. Composure + Leadership + Rank - Your glower shows a complete disregard for your opponent, and only a reminder of their place beneath you
The challenge is then resolved as per the normal challenge rules, with the following note:

Based upon the participant's ranks, they get the following additions to their challenge-
  • Adren - Gain one Adren Retest on all Stare Down Challenges - If both challengers are at least Adren, neither gets this retest.
  • Athro - Gain one Athro Retest on all Stare Down Challenges - If both challengers are at least Athro, neither gets this retest.
  • Elder - Gain one Elder Retest on all Stare Down Challenges - If both challengers are at least Elders, neither gets this retest.
  • Legend - Gain two Legend Retests on all Stare Down Challenges, this is an exception to the rule that only one type of Retest may be used in a given challenge - If both challengers are Legends then neither gets these retests.
Once the challenge and all retests have been resolved the loser of the challenge (either the Aggressor or Defender) looks away from the victor and must yield the point that the Stare Down was over. Further for the next 5 minutes they must act deferential to the victor, though not suicidal. Should the victor and/or their allies attack the loser for example they are completely able to defend themselves and further in such a situation would even be able to attack the victor.
